During my time at Ziibiwing Anishinaabe Cultural Center, I worked on wrapping books in archival folders to help preserve and protect the collection. Each book was wrapped to prevent direct contact with neighboring volumes and to reduce light damage and wear and movement over time. Along the spine, I noted the title and volume number, as well as a QR code linking to the digital version of the text, making the physical and digital collections work together.
It’s a simple but meaningful intervention. Keeping books from shifting and rubbing against each other goes a long way toward prolonging their lives, and connecting them to their digital counterparts makes the collection more accessible.
